It is definitely one of favorite books now after having such an amazing time reading this.

In fact this book was so good for me that merely into ten pages and I had already placed the order for the second book. The beauty of the book is its simplicity and maybe if somebody does not like this book then perhaps their reason would be the same that it was too simple for them but personally I loved the book for this same reason From the start to end, the book never complicates or loosens its grip on you.

The character unlike other books only gets better and bolder as you progress. You start falling in love with the central character for his wit, humor, sarcasms and goofiness. With very gentle treatment the author has told an exciting story and I wish badly that this could be made into a movie as on big screen this book could be an amazing adventure.

A fantastic book from start to end. The book is absolutely a fun ride with lovable characters. Humor is seamless and tickles the funny bones quite warmly. The entire book for me is simplicity personified.

It is elegant, smooth and has got friendly characters and a story that is told with the warmth of a bedtime story. This is one of the books that you can pick up if you are feeling down and want some light and funny read to cheer you up.

I am in love with this book and I am sure I will love to read this book again and again at any given time because I loved the central character that much. Funny, cute and adorable. See the review. Most helpful customer reviews on Amazon. It's almost a little ridiculous that this book has any rating under five stars, though differences in taste happen.

I mean, other people are clearly wrong, but that's alright. People are wrong sometimes. Most people, however, can see this book for what it is: The characters are intriguing: But, in a very Harry Potter vein, McBride's friends are extremely loyal.

They will sacrifice themselves for each other, and sometimes do. That aspect of the book was very touching. There are veins of witty jokes: But this paranormal read is unlike any other book I've read. It takes stale horror and paranormal themes and makes them, well, believable and real. Sam, his friends, his family and their various life traumas give the book that authentic feel. The paranormal elements add intrigue to the book, but it is stable even when those elements are not at play.

All this to say, this is an author you should give your attention to, paranormal fan or not. An elite writer. Verified Purchase. Sam has, up until now, lived a fairly normal life. Dropped out of college, working a dead-end job, and barely scraping by. After a game of make-shift hockey behind work during break, Sam becomes tangled up with Douglas Montgomery, a very dangerous necromancer who has plans for Sam.

One week is all Sam gets to figure out what to do: That week is, without a doubt, one of the worst of Sam's life. This was a very enjoyable novel. It took some time to really get into, as I felt the story swerved a bit too abruptly to Brid, the hybrid werewolf who eventually becomes the love interest. There was no subtlety there, and I suppose others would appreciate that but it was a little too much for my taste. Other than that though, I felt the writing was well done, the story was chalk full of drama and suspense, not to mention snippets of horror.

In the end, despite the little hiccup in the beginning, I was absorbed completely into this book and am glad I decided to pick it up! McBride positioned this book with a lighter comedic tone and mind, and that shows given Sam's often nervous musings and side comments here and there. He does have his funny moments, although there are times when the humor feels a bit forced and falls flat on its face.

It's largely told using the first person perspective, which is well and good when you're in Sam's head. However latter chapters have us jumping into the mind of Douglas and another character Brid without much warning or a clear shift in the tone. So things get a little confusing after the first few jumps until the author decides to settle down and focus on Sam - mostly. Many will argue that it follows the Harry Potter style secret world hiding in plain sight sort of thing, but that's a trope that many stories have employed even before Rowling and will continue to do so.

But this time around, the twist is that not only is Sam unaware of his legacy, but then we don't have a benevolent mentor figure swooping in to teach him either. Instead we have an odd collection of characters acting as his support group primarily his friends although they don't exactly have practical solutions for him all the time.
