A fascinating and stunning novel from Pete Wentz, the founder and bassist of punk sensation Fall Out Boy—that reveals the dark side of rock-and-roll. Sometimes, late at night in the hotel room, after the lights have gone out and the mistakes have already been made, when it is heavy and silent and still, I lie awake and listen to my pulse on the pillow…. Imagine you are on a tour bus, the miles whistling away beneath you as you sleep.

The review must be at least 50 characters long. I enjoyed how Wentz didn't put gloss on anything. It was honest, and unpretty at times most of the time. But that was the point, I think. You have this character who wanted, and believed in, the fairy tale. He wanted the happily ever after. Instead, he got real life. Even the details about the lifestyle, the expectations, the pressure -- it was certainly not glamorized. What is most frightening is that Wentz likely did fluff them a bit, and leave out some of the worst things.

It's an entirely different world, and chances of survival seemed minimal. The relationship the character had with Her is nothing shy of turbulent.

Who hasn't had one of those relationships? Sometimes, they're the best. But other times, they can ruin you. It felt that these two kept swinging back and forth on what the damage was. She brought out the best and worst of him. It's a reminder that these artists, the ones we "love" so much, are people. They have problems, and emotions.

Just because his dreams are solidifying, it doesn't mean he's truly happy, and that's okay. That's life. The symbolism is all over this story. I'm not great with spotting those things, but I have friends that are and strongly encouraged them to read this.

I think it takes a creative mind to see and understand those things, which I don't have. I can definitely appreciate it, and I enjoyed what parts I did actually catch. My only hang-up with the book was the ending. I had read the major spoiler beforehand I don't like emotional blows; surprises are not my thing , but the actual ending was so unsettled. I think that was also symbolic, and many will appreciate that. I, personally, like more finality.

But that's not life, and this book was definitely about the honesty of life. I did find my new motto in this plethora of brilliant lines, because it completely describes me. It's different from most books I review, but it's definitely earned its spot as a favorite. Just don't expect some happy ending, nicely boxed up with a bow - you won't find that here. Unfortunately, something tells me I won't be able to just email this author to purchase a signed copy like I normally do.

Oh well. And, yes, my review is lacking its normal inappropriate humor.

I blame the sad book. No laughs for sad books. Hardcover Verified Purchase. It's like one long Fall Out Boy song. All of the metaphors and clever way with words that you come to expect from Pete's writing.

If you know anything about Pete's life or the band, you'll see that this is a loose but is it really that loose? The main story line revolved around "Her," his longtime on-again-off-again love interest. You'll recognize other band members by their aliases if you're savvy enough the use of nicknames and middle names to be more tongue in cheek. It's a quick read at under pages and you'll find fun easter eggs if you're a long time FOB fan, in terms of references to where certain lyrics may have been inspired from.

I recommend this to anyone. I am a huge fan of Pete Wentz so I can only say good things about his novel. He is a wonderful story teller and I really enjoyed his writing here. Some people feel this is his autobiography and I'm sure some of it probably comes from real life situations but I think it is just a story. If you know FOB you will see similarities between his character 'Animal' and drummer Andy Hurley and his character 'Martin' and Patrick Stump but otherwise it is a story.

I would recommend this book to anyone and especially to fans of Pete. It should have been titled HER. And why is the H capitalized??? That drove me crazy but other than that it was okay. Would have liked a different ending. It made me cry when he talked about rain on the bus. I spent hours on my cousins tour bus and it always seemed to be raining. I don't normally read, but I couldn't put this book down. This quasi-biography is a very open an honest take of life from the view of Wentz.

Its not sugar coated and isn't really appropriate for young audiences, but that's part of what makes it so compelling. He doesn't hide anything. Its interesting to see his view on life, and although he doesn't give any answers, he asks so many existential questions. In that manner, it really reminds me of Augustine's Confessions.

Just raw. Its like being with those friends that really think about life. Which is why I couldn't stop reading I'm a really big fan of Pete Wentz, but I was skeptical when I heard he was writing a book.

He's a fantastic lyricist but, I was afraid that the book would model the same disjointed style that his lyrics sometimes have. I was wrong, the book has an awesome plot and the characters manage to hit you emotionally.

Especially the narrator. Even when he was selfish and horrible, I still found myself rooting for him.

Gray : FallOutBoy

I kept hoping that some level of success or the right person would finally make him happy. This book was really good and relatively short. It pulls you in from the first few pages and you'll be disappointed when it's over.

Save Rock and Roll. It's just what you'd expect when you think of Pete Wentz writing a book. I spent most of it pondering the connections between the fiction of the book and his real life, because some of the details he included were so blatantly non-fiction that it was a bit distracting. Other than that, I really enjoyed the imagery in his writing. When you're reading it you can tell that he's a songwriter, which I haven't decided is either good or bad.

The story was interesting, but there wasn't any major plot point or conflict, other than the protaganist's inner struggles. I'd recommend this is you're a fan of Pete, but don't expect too much from it. See all reviews.
